Dr. David San Filippo is a licensed mental health counselor, a certified disability management specialist, and a certified cognitive behavioral specialist. He has specialized in helping adults overcome issues related to personal development and loss.

Personal Development

Understanding Self and Relationships: This counseling service focuses on the individual and overcoming issues that have caused the individual to feel out of control of her/his life. Areas to be explored are how one perceives her/his environment, one's part in life, and relationships that are developed throughout life. Attitudes towards self and relationships will be explored using psychological, social, spiritual perspectives.

Stress Management: This counseling service is intended to help the individual to identify stressors in her/his life and learn how to manage the stress. The individual will have an opportunity to rate her/his current level of stress and then practice several stress management exercises to learn new methods to deal with stress.

Hypnotherapy: Hypnosis, in combination with counseling & guidance, is used to assist individuals in overcoming fears & behaviors that are counter productive to physical & mental health. Dr. San Filippo utilizes Ericksonian techniques of hypnosis & teaches individuals self hypnosis to sustain their successes to employ from the hypnotherapy sessions.

Career Development: This service is intended to help the participant explore her/his occupational potential and/or evaluate her/his current career path. The participant will learn to explore her/his personal strengths, weaknesses, interests, and skills to develop occupational choices and career direction. Assistance is provided in job seeking skills and resume' preparation.

Dealing With Loss

Death and Bereavement: This counseling service will assist the individual to deal with the death of another, ones own death, and the grief associated with this life experience. Attitudes towards death, dying, and grief will be explored using psychological, social, spiritual, and medical perspectives. The individual will be guided to become aware of their personal perspective of death, and how this perspective influences how one will grieve an individual's death.

Terminal Illness: This counseling service is intended to provide the terminally ill person with techniques to enrich the experience of being terminal ill. It also can provide practical applications for the terminally ill person's support system to communicate and care for the person. An overview of issues relating to the dying person, the grieving process, and methods to maximize the person's remaining time will be explored.

Physical Disability: This counseling is designed to assist the individual who may have had an accident or illness that has changed her/his life. Attitudes towards disabilities will be explored using psychological, social, spiritual, and medical perspectives. The individual will be guided to become aware of their personal perspective of being disabled, and how this perspective influences how she/he will live her/his life.

Employment: This service is designed to assist the individual who may have had an accident or illness that has effected her/his ability to work. Attitudes towards work will be explored using psychological, social, spiritual, and medical perspectives. The individual will be guided to become aware of their personal perspective of being disabled, out of work, or under employed, and how this perspective influences how she/he will be a part of the work force.
