Personal Growth & Development - Death, Dying & Grief

David San Filippo, Ph.D. provides lectures, and workshops on topics associated with human experiences, dynamics, and potential. These topics can be presented in a lecture format of one to two hours, or in a more in-depth presentation in a workshop format of four to twelve hours.

PERSONAL GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT

  • Understanding Stress And Not Letting It Control You: This presentation is intended to help participants to identify stressors in their lives and learn how to manage the stress. Participants will have an opportunity to rate their level of stress and learn stress management techniques.
  • Find Time To Manage Time: During this presentation participants will learn to identify their current time management techniques, the factors that effect their time, and methods to improve their use of time. They will have an opportunity to define, refine, or improve their time management techniques.
  • What Should Be My Work?: Designed to help participants who are exploring their occupational potential and/or are looking to enhance their current career. Participants will learn to explore their personal strengths, weaknesses, interests, and skills to develop occupational choices and career direction.
  • Better Relationships Through Better Communications: Participants will learn to recognize and use various communication styles and techniques to improve interpersonal communications. Discussions and experiential exercises are used to identify and improve personal communication styles between individuals and groups.
  • Personal Growth Through Diversity: This presentation looks at how the awareness and acceptance of our cultural differences can influence our personal growth and relationships.  Participants will explore their diversity and their strengths through discussion and experiential exercises.
  • Is the Glass Half Full or Half Empty? : Often in life we do not always see the positive influences that are affecting our daily  lives.  Through discussion and experiential exercises the participants will become more aware of a positive, more fulfilled view of life.
  • It's Not Fair! : How many times do we hear someone exclaim,  “It's not fair!”  In this presentation participants will explore,  through discussion and experiential exercises, why the cry, It's not fair!” seem to be prevalent in our society and how to respond to this attitude.
  • Exploring Your Gifts: When we were born we each were endowed with special talents that when properly applied lead to a fulfilled life.  This workshop will explore our affective, cognitive, and spiritual gifts through discussion and experiential exercises.
  • To My Own Self Be True: To enhance personal and professional relationship we should have a firm understanding or our affective and cognitive attitudes and skills.  In this presentation participants will learn more about themselves and their interpersonal relationship skills through discussion and experiential exercises.
  • Gratefulness - The Heart of Prayer: A grateful attitude produces a positive outlook on life and its experiences.  In this presentation the participants review the guidance, ”In everything pray” and explore how to enrich their lives and prayers with an attitude of gratefulness.

DEATH, DYING & GRIEF

  • Understanding Death And Grief In A Modern World: Psychological, social, and medical perspectives of death, dying, and grief will be presented. Participants of this presentation will be guided to become aware of their personal perspective of death and how this perspective influences how they grieve an individuals death.
  • Assisting The Terminally Ill: This presentation is intended to provide the participant with practical applications for communicating and caring for terminally ill individuals & their families.  An overview of issues relating to the dying person, the grieving process, and methods to maximize the person's remaining time will be discussed.
  • Helping Children And Adolescents Deal With Death: Participants  will receive an overview of how children and adolescents view death and  dying and learn methods to help them deal with loss and grief in their lives. Participants will have the opportunity to see death from a young person's perspective and learn how to appropriately communicate and teach  them about this life experience.
  • How Will I Ever Get Over It?: The human emotion of grief can have a significant effect on our lives.  Through a sensitive discussion, grief participants will learn to deal with their grieving process and methods of how to help others with their grief.
  • Suicide Is Dangerous: A program designed to help children, adolescents, and adults to help recognize potential suicidal risks and learn methods to deal with the risks.  Group discussion will help the participants to become familiar with the dangers of suicide, its prevalence in our society, and methods to prevent suicide.
  • Understanding Near-Death Experiences: This presentation provides a historical and current perspective of the phenomena of near-death experiences.  The presentation is designed to provide the participants with various cultural, religious, and scientific perspectives of near-death experiences.
  • Therapeutic Values Of Near Death Experience Stories: The history of near death experiences, various interpretations of the experience, and the effect these experiences have on the experiencers and people who are aware of near death experiences will be discussed.  Group discussion will help to share near death experience knowledge and their therapeutic value for those with concerns about death and dying.
  • How To Help Near Death Experiencers Understand Their Experiences: This presentation is designed for counselors, family members, and friends of individuals who have had near death experiences, and individuals who have had a near death experience.  Discussions of the history of near death experiences, interpretations of near death experiences, and the experiences of other experiencers will assist the participants to understand the experience and its effect on the experiencer and others.
